Our spiritual community has been brought together by a devotion to awakening that we feel in our hearts. The direct experience of inner peace and connection with the Spirit is what it’s all about.

David Hoffmeister is the inspiration that has drawn the Awakening Mind community together. His radiant joy and boundless energy is the effect of letting go of the ego and identifying completely with Spirit. A contemporary mystic, David is known for transforming everyday movie-watching into a profound spiritual practice rooted in A Course in Miracles. Rather than focusing on a single film, he has curated and commented on a vast collection of over 470 movies, using them as modern-day parables to help expose and release fear, judgment, and ego-based thinking. This work is organized through The Movie Watcher’s Guide to Enlightenment (MWGE), an online database where films are explored through themes like forgiveness, the illusory nature of time and space, and the undoing of the ego. Through what he calls “mindful movie-watching,” David guides viewers to use films as mirrors of the mind—turning entertainment into a powerful tool for awakening.

A central example of this living application is the documentary Take Me Home, directed by Frances Xu, which emerged from David’s community and captures a journey of deep trust, guidance, and inner transformation. This profound film follows a group of strangers as they enter a monastery for a month-long stay, and immediately find themselves opening up to each other in ways they never could have imagined.
